In this sermon from St. Andrew Orthodox Christian Church, Father Cassian explores the transformative power of God's grace through the life of St. Paul and the miracle at the Wedding of Cana. Centered on the question, "Can God forgive a murderer?", the message serves as a powerful reminder that no sin is too great for divine mercy.
Key Highlights
The Conversion of St. Paul: The sermon details the dramatic transformation of Saul of Tarsus—from a violent persecutor of early Christians who "held the coats" [03:44] during the stoning of St. Stephen, to a "chosen vessel" [08:11] of God.
The Encounter with Christ: The speaker recounts the moment on the road to Damascus where Christ stopped Saul, asking, "Why do you persecute me?" [05:06], illustrating that resisting the Holy Spirit is like "kicking against the pricks" [05:13].
The Power of Baptism and Confession: The video emphasizes that belief must be paired with action, noting that Paul was immediately baptized [09:33] and that the Church offers the sacrament of confession for all sins, including the most grave [10:42].
The Role of the Virgin Mary: Reflecting on the Wedding at Cana, the speaker highlights Mary's pivotal command to all Christians: "Whatever he says, do it" [15:18].
Transformation Through Perseverance: The sermon concludes by comparing our spiritual life to the water turned into wine—what may start as "plain boring water" [16:42] can be transformed by Christ into something beautiful if He remains at the center of our lives [17:20].

We at St Andrew are Orthodox Christians located in Eustis, Florida, worshiping according to the ancient Western Rite practiced by the early Christians in the West for the first 1,000 years of Christianity. We are canonical (mainline) Orthodox in the Antiochian Patriarchate headquartered in Damascus, Syria, under His Beatitude Patriarch John X, and in the self-ruled Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America under His Eminence Metropolitan SABA, within the Western Rite Vicariate under His Grace Bishop JOHN.
What is Our Worship Like?
Many of the Antiochian churches use the Byzantine Liturgical Rite, Middle Eastern in style. Our parish is one of about 10% of the Antiochian parishes who use the Western Rite, traditional Episcopalian/Roman Catholic in style and fully Orthodox Christian in content. The order of the service is Western and familiar to Americans from liturgical churches, our choir sings simple Gregorian chant for the propers, and the congregation sings Western hymns (i.e Love Divine All Loves Excelling, Be Thou My Vision, Away in a Manger, etc.).
