Fleas have existed on earth for around one hundred and eighty years and are extremely well adapted for their life as ectoparasites (parasites that live outside the bodies of other organisms).

Fleas most commonly encountered by humans within their homes are either a Cat Flea or Dog Flea. The life cycle for both species are relatively the same and so precise identification is not required for treatment.

The Cat Flea is the more widespread species and despite its name is found on both cats and dogs and occasionally rats and foxes.
