Rescuing a juvenile flying-fox stuck on a balcony: this is Maccas

Описание: This rescue call came in late at night as I was stepping into the shower. I have to admit I was quite curt when I was called minutes after the rescue call popped onto our app, because I didn't want to go and there are other people who live in the area who were most likely tucked up in bed ignoring the call.
Little Maccas is an 18 week Grey-Headed Flying-Fox juvenile who was heard to crash land on the balcony courtyard in an inner city suburb terrace house. The balcony had quite high walls so there was no way out for him, but apparently he tried a few times and managed to get over a metre off the ground which means he's a strong little boy.
I brought him home, sorted him out for the night and found him happily alive in the morning. I put him onto the famous pink dressing gown so he could evacuate and groom, but he decided he was going to fly around my kitchen and trash it the minute my back was turned, which earned him an early visit to the carer with a bat room and indoor enclosure.

He's doing well and may be a candidate for hard release on Monday.

I named him Macca's (because in Australia we call McDonalds, Macca's, and he was very close to Macdonaldtown Station).


Tolga Bat Hospital takes donations for me. Tolga is an awesome place in Far North Queensland, which has charity status. By sending donations to them, they get a percentage (and deserve every cent) and they can allocate money to me for batty expenses without it becoming part of my income stream (which makes tax time difficult).
