Trying WINTER CAMPING Without Any Experience

We decided to challenge ourselves with a 24 hrs winter camping survival challenge. We do not have any real experience in terms of snow camping but we were in good hands with the Yours Outdoor and the Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve team who gave us some epic winter camping equipment on top of teaching us how to us it properly.

After a quick brief, we headed out on out own with all our winter survival equipment on a snow sled. After walking through the Haliburton Forest, we find a spot to pitch our hot tent for the night. It took a little longer than planned to put the tent together and set up the wood stove but for first timers, we did pretty good. From there we stocked up on wood for the night and started a fire inside our camping wood stove.

The real challenge was to keep the wood stove going to keep the hot tent warm throughout the night. I woke up ever few hours to put some more wood into the stove and eventually, the morning came when I was rewarded with some delicious hot maple oatmeal!

But our time at the Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve Ltd did not end there. We also visited the Wolf Centre which was super fun. Seeing wolves in real life was quite impressive.

For lunch and before our next winter physical challenge we had a quick bite at the Haliburton Forest Cookhouse for some AMAZING BBQ! You have to try that restaurant, it's a must.

Finally, we had the opportunity to try ice climbing for the very first time. Let us tell you, it was quite challenging but so much fun. Our instructors were amazing and very patient.
