Chicken Curry with Poppy Seeds
A twist on the basic chicken curry adding extra richness which takes it to a whole new level! The creamy poppy seeds paste makes a perfect base for Indian curries!
The smooth and creamy curry base with poppy seeds paste was perfect for the lean meat and is best served with plain rice. Give that flat bread a miss this time!
Ingredients :
1 kg Chicken (Curry cut)
3 onions julienne cut
2 tbsp ginger-garlic chopped
3 green chilli slit
1/2 tsp cardamom powder
2 tbsp each Coconut oil and Ghee
1 cup water
Salt as required
Coconut Poppy seed paste :
1. Roast following with little Ghee -
2 tbsp coriander seeds
1 tbsp poppy seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp pepper corn
1 tsp snauf
1 tsp methi seeds
2. Fry 1 small onion chopped & 5 garlic pods with ghee until transparent
Roast 10 byadagi chilli
Roast 2 cup grated coconut
1 tbsp Garam Masala Powder
1 /2 tsp turmeric powder
1 small tamarind
Grind all the above ingredients with adequate water. Grind well to smooth fine paste.
Method:
1. Heat coconut oil and Ghee. Add the chopped onions, fry until transparent. Add chopped ginger-garlic, followed by slit green chilli. Stir fry for 2-3 minutes.
2. Add cardamom powder. Stir fry for a minute. Add the chicken pieces. Salt as required. Add water and mix well.
3. Close lid and cook chicken for 15 minutes with occasional stirring.
4. Now add the ground masala paste. Add adequate water. Adjust as required. Mix well.
5. Cook the gravy until oil leaves corner. See that you cook under low heat for 8-10 minutes with occasional stirring.
6. Switch off the flame. Chicken Curry with poppy seeds is ready to be served.
