This is the biggest EPA emission updated in almost 20 years. there are 3 major changes, 50% reduction in diesel particulate matter, 82.5% reduction in NOx gases and 180% extension on emission component warranties.

I figured i would breifly explain the 4 major compoenets of an emission system, EGR, DOC, DPF and your SCR all play a factor in reducing the 3 main polutants of carbon monoxide, particulate matter and nox gases.

the first major change is the reduction of particulate matter by 50% bringing the total amount of 0.005 grams which is a pretty heavy reduction. bringing the diesel engine level well below the average passenger gas vehicle.

the next major change is a reduction of nox gases by 82.5% which I think will be the hardest for manufactures to hit. cummins is going to be installing a 48V electric heater to help keep the SCR hot and thus reduce more nox gas making the whole system more effecient. they willl also be intoducting a new dual chamber SCR system.
