Mit der Allmend Brunau im Süden von Zürich besitzt die Stadt einen Erholungsraum, der in seiner Art einmalig ist: Eine zusammenhängende und frei zugängliche Fläche dieser Grösse in Stadtnähe hat heute Seltenheitswert. Die lange als Waffenplatz benutzte Allmend steht erst seit 1987 der Bevölkerung zur freien Benutzung zur Verfügung. In Zürich-Brunau wurde über der Sihl,
dem grössten Nebenfluss der Limmat, auf Brücken eine Stadtautobahn, die Sihlhochstrasse, errichtet. Der Uetlibergtunnel durchquert den Zürcher Hausberg Uetliberg und verbindet damit als Teilstück der A3 Zürich-West (Birmensdorf) mit Zürich-Süd (Wollishofen) in direkter Linie.


Allmend Brunau in the south of Zurich is a unique recreational area and an asset to the city: A continuous, freely accessible area of this size close to the city is nowadays a rarity. The Allemend, which was used as an armory for a long time, has only been available for use to the public since 1987. In Zurich-Brunau, a city highway (the Sihlhochstrasse) was set up on bridges above the Sihl, the biggest tributary of the river Limmat. The Uetliberg Tunnel runs through the local mountain of Zurich, the Uetliberg, and thus, as a section of the A3 highway, forms a direct connection between the west of Zurich (Birmensdorf) and the south of Zurich (Wollishofen).
