A night of jubilation in Harlem as the country elects its first African American president.

When the news broke that Barack Obama had won, people burst out of their homes to celebrate.
Many said it was the best time of their lives.

Celebrators crowded onto the busy intersection of 125th Street and 7th Avenue, briefly shutting the roadway down, before police got traffic moving again.

People danced and drummed their way down the sidewalk.
Many paused to reflect.
