Indi is joined by Dr Anosh Shane Sivashanmugarajah, Dual Cardiology and General Medicine Advanced Trainee, to talk about Acute Rheumatic Fever and Rheumatic Heart Disease.
You can't talk about Rheumatic Heart Disease without talking about Acute Rheumatic Fever. Dr Anosh discusses the pathophysiology of these conditions and walks us through the Jones criteria. We discuss the importance of diagnosing Acute Rheumatic Fever, whether that be a definite, probable or a possible diagnosis of ARF. How long do you give secondary prophylaxis in the form of Bicillin L-A, also known as long acting benzathine benzylpenicillin G? What treatment and follow-up occurs for someone with RHD?
