In recent years, the difficulties and failures of national level peace processes, and the fragmented nature of contemporary conflict, have prompted increased attention on ‘the local’ as a space of conflict resolution. In 2021 a series of reports were published by the Political Settlements Research Programme, the Conflict Research Programme, and the British Academy, which explored the roles that local agreements, processes, and community level mediation can play as peacemaking tools, and ask how these processes relate to national efforts to end conflict. In this webinar, PeaceRep researchers discuss the key findings from this work and reflect on what further questions the practice of local peace processes raise for contemporary peacemaking.
Speakers:
Professor Mary Kaldor, London School of Economics
