Verdict: Alright (6/10)
Okay, I think this is possibly one of my least favorite towers. I have never been much a fan of puzzles, feeling the answer is too easy on replays and yet the first attempt tends to be extremely frustrating especially if the answer isn't something you would logically reach. So doing this tended to be more frustrating than fun; too easy platforming and yet too annoying sections.
After choking over and over on the outside section since I kept having to redo it due to various failing puzzles, plus a weird bug on floor 8 where my jump key didn't work, I was pretty fed up with this one.
Thankfully a user by the name of shadowkiller219 happened to be around and was talking about how they loved to speedrun ToE, which just happened to lead to them offering to help me. Absolutely amazing that they took the time to do this, especially when 30-35 of those minutes were spent with me going in circles on a floor due to fighting with the floor 8 platform which had become more wonky. This was something I had to work with after a conveyor decided to act up on me, not speeding me as far as it should have.
Also, so glad I had shadowkiller219 pretty much telling me exactly where to go on the final floor especially. Most of the puzzles were frustrating, but solvable and felt logical enough to me. The puzzle he told me the answers to was complete bs, since you need to know soduku... in a JTOH tower. I have no idea how or why anyone in this day and age would know what soduku is unless you were super into math puzzles or something.
The problem, simply put, is that the top floor requires too much outside knowledge for my liking. Looking at the top floor, without any guide, I would have no idea what said number system was about. I likely would assume something like needing to go to them in order somehow or maybe even a mathematical formula. Remember for a moment I have no idea what soduku is or that this is soduku; the only answer would be to look it up, which is pretty much bs as the answer should be in the game. Even providing me with some sort of example would have helped tremendously.
As it is, I disliked ToE when I thought the floors consisted of cheap puzzles that were not that fun to do. I absolutely hate it when I realize there are puzzles that require outside knowledge; it would be like a tower expecting you to know music theory. I don't play soduku, I don't really like numbers and math, and the inclusion of something like this is nothing short of complete and utter bs.
I don't care that it is easy if you look it up. You shouldn't need to look up anything truthfully, it should be pretty apparent what to do or easy enough to figure out from your mistakes (note mistakes, not because you were surprised by some trap). I don't care that this tower was heavily praised in 2018 and was "amazing" for its time, because honestly it was complete garbage for its time in comparison to stuff like ToR (which was one of the first few made).
After spending 40 minutes, I debated redoing this since I could possibly do it in less time now that I know what to do. But, unless given good reason to like a good friend playing this tower, I want nothing to do with this frustration. I may hate various other towers, my dislike of ToTS is quite vocal, but this tower has managed to take the #1 place for complete and utter bs.
