Liz never set out to be self-employed.
In fact, when she was studying graphic design, running her own business was something she actively didn’t want. She wanted experience, collaboration and the structure/fun of working for other people.
Her business didn’t begin with a big leap or a master plan. It started with a few freelance projects on the side - designing things for fun and testing ideas without pressure.
Motherhood was the turning point.
Not because Liz suddenly wanted to be an entrepreneur, but because the reality of commuting, long hours and asking permission to work flexibly no longer felt good to her.
What followed wasn’t a neat transition. It was stop–start. Built around nap times, nursery days and maternity leaves. Scaling, pausing, then starting again.
Turns out that freedom and flexibility was addictive.
Businesses that are forged in early motherhood rarely follow a predictable trajectory. They may grow in line with fluctuating capacity, because there's also a human or two growing alongside them!
