Equilibrium therapy practice, set in tranquil rural Somerset, offers animal-assisted therapy, equine-facilitated psychotherapy and counselling as emotional support for people with issues such as stress, depression, anxiety, grief or low self-esteem.
Is the pressure from work-related stress becoming unbearable? Do the demands of your family life feel overwhelming, or are you demoralised by failed or unhappy relationships? If so, perhaps you are seeking professional help but looking for something other than conventional counselling. Please read on to find out about a different form of therapy that I can offer to help relieve your emotional pain or mental distress.
My special therapy practice integrates my professional counselling skills with the tranquillity of a beautiful setting and the healing presence of animals. Working with both dogs and horses, I facilitate the remarkable ability of these animals to connect with, and gently reflect back, underlying human emotions in a non-judgemental and supportive way.
As well as providing conventional counselling, I offer equine-facilitated psychotherapy (an in-depth form of equine-assisted therapy) as a more experiential form of therapy. Through participating in, and reflecting on, therapeutic activities that have meaning for their lives, clients can learn about themselves. They can practice different ways of coping with, responding to, and changing behaviour, relationships and situations, which they can then transfer to their everyday lives.
My aim as a counsellor is to offer clients a safe, confidential space in which to build a warm, trusting, and secure relationship. This creates the right conditions for people to make positive changes in their lives, or find healthy ways of adapting to circumstances that cannot be changed.
I work as an integrative and relational counsellor. In my therapy, I initially aim to gain clients’ trust and enter into their world, to experience life as they see it and build a strong relationship. I can then start to understand the issues that are troubling them, and use that insight to support them in facing their problems and finding strategies to either change them or better cope with them.
My Practice is based in an idyllic rural location on the edge of the Quantock Hills. The beauty and peace of the setting offers clients a tranquil haven from hectic family and professional lives, in which I can support them in facing difficult issues. I offer conventional counselling sessions, in which my dogs can be involved, as well as ‘walk and talk’ sessions in the quiet Somerset countryside, for those who prefer a more active form of counselling. With my horses I offer a form of more experiential therapy and learning that engages clients in active learning and self-development.
I am also happy to discuss referrals with organisations and professionals who commission support for clients.
At Equilibrium I can offer clients the hope of healing through experiencing nurturing relationships and rural tranquillity. Counselling sessions take place in an authentic shepherd’s hut located on an idyllic 10 acre smallholding in a secluded setting. Beyond the hut, we have access to gardens, orchards, hay meadows and woodland.
Life on our smallholding largely revolves around looking after the animals, garden and grounds. Using traditional methods of husbandry, we manage the land ourselves to support our horses and nurture the wildlife, as well as to produce juice and cider from the local varieties of apple trees that we’ve planted.
