Wanrong, born Goburoo Hiroko, was the queen of Puyi, the last king of the Qing dynasty and Manchukuo. Her life is a tragic story of love, loss and tragedy, intertwined with the historical upheavals of China in the early 20th century.

Born into a powerful Manchu aristocratic family, Wanrong was well-educated and knowledgeable in many languages. She married Puyi in 1922 at the age of 16, becoming empress of the declining Qing dynasty. However, her married life was not happy. Pu Yi spent a lot of time reviving the Qing Dynasty, while Wanrong felt lonely and lost in the lavish palace.

After Manchukuo was established, Wanrong became the queen of this puppet state. However, she increasingly sank into addiction and illness, and her relationship with Pho Nghi became even more fractured. After Japan's surrender in 1945, Wanrong was captured by Soviet troops and died in a prison in Yanji in 1946, only 40 years old.

Wanrong is a tragic figure, caught up in the whirlwind of history and politics. Her life is a reminder of the consequences of war and the collapse of feudalism.
