Modern Standard Hindi is the standardized variety of the Hindustani language written in the Devanagari script. It is one of the official languages of India, alongside English, and serves as the lingua franca of North India. Hindi is a Sanskritized form of Hindustani, which is primarily based on the Khariboli dialect of Delhi and surrounding areas. It is an official language in nine states and three union territories and an additional official language in three other states. Hindi is also one of the 22 scheduled languages of India.

Sindhi is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by about 30 million people in Pakistan and 1.7 million in India. It uses the Perso-Arabic script in Pakistan, while both Perso-Arabic and Devanagari scripts are used in India. The language is first mentioned in the Nātyaśāstra (200 B.C.–200 A.D.), with the earliest written evidence being a Qur'an translation from 883 A.D. Sindhi was influenced by Persian and Arabic after the Umayyad conquest in 712 CE, and its literary tradition flourished during the Medieval period.
