AMD 15.20 Linux Driver Install Tutorial (Ubuntu)

Описание: Note: If you intend on installing steam do that before you install these drivers. You aren't required to install this driver. It will improve performance.


Instructions:
1. Download the drivers from AMD's website www.amd.com
2. Extract the zip file you just downloaded and remember the directory. The directory can be seen at the top of the file manager or with the command 'pwd'
3. open up a terminal and type: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
4. Aforementioned really long command:

sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic build-essential cdbs fakeroot dh-make debhelper debconf lib32gcc1 libstdc++6 dkms libqtgui4 wget execstack libelfg0 dh-modaliases

5. sudo bash (AMD .run file) typically located at /home/user/Downloads
6. Select the generate distribution specific package option.

7. Read the log file and check for any unsatisfied dependencies and install them as described in the log or by using apt-get -f install
8. When prompted if you want to install the files, click yes.
9. BEFORE REBOOTING!!!! sudo aticonfig --initial (everyone) --adapter=all (x-fire and other multiple adapter setups) -f (multiple monitors)
10. Reboot your computer.
11. Configure in the catalyst control center.
12. I didn't remove the generated debian files but if you want to you can either use the file manager and delete them or use the command "rm fglrx-*"


Workarounds:
lokixml.sh not found:

First, extract the .run file:
./amd-driver-installer-14.20-x86.x86_64.run --extract

Next, cd into the newly created directory
cd fgrlx-install
optionally, run this to preview the line which is causing the error:
grep -n "\[\[" lokixml.sh

Now, open lokixml.sh in your preferred editor and search for "[[" (without quotes). Given that we're working with exactly the same version, you should find this on line 143. Comment out the entire conditional block (lines 143-145).

Finally, run the install script with sudo:
sudo ./ati-installer.sh 14.20 --install


A conditional block is a block of code that starts with an "if" statement. In bash, the language of this script, the conditional will end in "fi" as all conditional blocks end in the spelling of the first conditional spelled backwards.

To comment out a section in a bash script you must start the line with a "#".
example:

this line is not commented
#this line is commented




For all people with X-fire graphics cards: (This may be fixed)
You need to install Ubuntu with only one of the cards installed. Once the install is complete. Place the second card back on the motherboard. When booting go to 'Advanced options for Ubuntu' and select the 'latest kernel (recovery mode)'. Select failsafe graphics and hit enter twice, then click around until you find your mouse and select ok. On the next screen select low graphics settings for just one use' The screen will look like what I can only assume acid does to you. Then hit enter if it freezes and it should show you the log in screen. You must configure the drivers or boot like that every time you start Ubuntu.
