The Cahokia Mounds Historic Site is the largest prehistoric Indian site north of Mexico. The mounds covered about 4000 acres and included at least 120 mounds. The state of Illinois now protects 2200 acres of the central portion of the site and 72 of the 80 remaining mounds. The site was named a U S National Historic landmark in 1965 and in 1982 the United nations educational, scientific and cultural organization designated Cahokia Mounds as a World Heritage site for its significance in the prehistory of North America.

I love history and I get out and go find it every week! I have found some amazing history just by getting out and exploring!
I try to pronounce everything properly. I really do try, so please forgive me if I don't pronounce something properly. :) Be Nice!
