Hereä: Veden värit (Colours of water)


Hereä is an ensemble emerging from the Sibelius Academy and across genre boundaries.

Established by folk music students, the band’s lineup includes Aili Ikonen, better known as a jazz soloist; Milla Viljamaa, a master of folk piano and tango nuevo; Sara Puljula, a veteran of dozens of top-notch folk ensembles; and Vesa Norilo, the first cellist to graduate from the Department of Folk Music, who has since completed a doctorate in music technology. The band’s recent album Veden värit (Colours of water, 2016) is an unabashed free flow of musical invention exploring current trends and based on traditional Finnish music and poetry. Hereä is an inspiring ensemble of the ability of the multi-discipline environment of the Sibelius Academy community to stimulate new kinds of music.
