San Juan, Puerto Rico's RARE Runway 26 Approach & Landing (full footage) | 4 October 2023 (SJU/TJSJ)

Описание: SJU normally operates on an eastward direction (runways 8 and 10) due to prevailing easterly trade winds year-round. However, certain weather events like hurricanes passing to the north, cold fronts, and even thunderstorms can reverse the surface winds from a westerly direction, prompting air traffic control (ATC) to turn the airport around to "west ops", or "reverse ops". In this case, runway 26 is mainly used for landings, and runway 28 is used for most takeoffs than can accept the 8,000ft runway for departure.

In 30 years of flying in and out of this airport, this is my 1st time experiencing a landing on runway 26. The culprit was Tropical Storm PHILIPPE, which was located about 300 miles north of San Juan. The cyclone provoked a reversal in the winds at SJU that resulted in reverse ops for a couple of days.
