Somalia is obviously a long country from north to south. The country extends for 2,483 km, off the east coast of the United States it stretches from Florida all the way up to Rhode Island. For a European perspective Somalia stretches from Spain in the south all the way to Germany in the north. But despite its enormous length, Somalia is also very narrow with an average width west to east of only 100 km (62miles) at its narrowest point, about the same distance from Long Beach California to Sun City. With a coastline of more than 3,333 kilometers (2070 mi) in length, the longest of mainland Africa, and when you consider all of the country’s territorial claims which are recognized by all other countries, Somalia does have more of a hook shape and has been described as being roughly shaped like a tilted number seven.
The horn of Africa country has an uncanny resemblance with crescent shaped Croatia, the two boomerang shaped nations are a spitting image of the other placed on a mirror plane.
