IMOS!
According to Buddhist literature, if someone wishes to attain enlightenment, they must fulfill ten perfections. Metta is one of these ten and therefore practicing Metta is essential for our spiritual development.
The Metta Sutta is the Buddha's discourse on developing and sustaining loving-kindness. It is a fundamental Buddhist teaching and is often used as an introduction to the spiritual practice.

In teaching the Metta Sutta, the Buddha did not intend for his words to be recited as a mere ritual. He wanted to guide his followers in using loving -kindness in their everyday
lives.
In the Buddha's teaching, we learn about brahmavihara, a term that refers to the four virtues and meditative practices. It comes from the Pali words brahma, meaning "divine" and vihara, which means "abode." The brahmaviharas are also known as "the four sublime states." These four qualities are Metta (loving-friendliness), Karna (compassion), Mudita (sympathetic joy), and Upekkha (equanimity). In order to one day eliminate all of one's defilements and attain enlightenment, we establish all of these brahmavihara qualities within us.

All human beings have four ambitions, according to the Dhammapada. They are 5 9061 explained in this way: "The greatest gain is health. The greatest wealth is happiness. The greatest kinship is confidence. The greatest comfort is enlightenment." All are unique to human beings, and together they provide liberation from samsara. We practice achieving all these goals, and Metta is part of this practice. Without developing our 1° Metta, we cannot get any of these four ambitions fulfilled.
Metta is a wish for true happiness, for ourselves and everyone else. The highest level of Metta we can attain is just like a mother's love for her child. Through the regular Practice of Metta, we become able to wish happiness for the entire universe, as a mother has unconditional love for her child.
We practice generosity, meditation and observe the precepts. According to the Noble Eight-Fold path, generosity belongs to right intention, which in turn has three areas: giving away without any intention (Nekkamma), compassion (Avyapada) and being free from cruelty (Avihimsa). Generosity develops the four qualities within person that we call the four brahmaviharas. We can gain thoughts of loving friendliness through practicing
generosity.
The Buddha's recommends directing Metta toward each of the10 directions: north, south, east, west, northeast, southeast, northwest and southwest, as well as above and
below.

Fifth - for all beings, everywhere, without exception
The meaning of "may I be well extends beyond the wish to be healthy and free from illness. It has a deeper meaning - to be free from the five hindrance, free from the ten tendencies, and free from the three fermentations.
According to the Mettanisansa Sutta, practicing Metta produces many benefits. "Bhikkus There are eleven benefits from the practice of loving friendliness that arise from the emancipation of the heart, if repeated, developed, made much of, made a habit of, made a basis, experienced, practiced, well undertaken, eleven benefits are expected." We can improve our concentration, develop unconditional love, sleep well, and wake up happy, without having bad dreams. We can more easily maintain our happiness and we become more attractive to others. We will not be vulnerable to poison or fire. Metta protects us from danger in both our inner and outer circumstances in life. I E
