When using the Mana alternate rules set, characters with spellcasting convert their existing spell slots into a Mana pool. Characters receive one point of Mana for each level of spell for the total slots available. So if a character has :
6 1st lvl
4 2nd lvl
2 3rd lvl
1 4th lvl
Their available Max Mana will be 24 Mana.
They now cast spells as normal, simply subtracting from their Mana pool the cost of the spell, determined by the spells level. They continue to learn new spells at a rate determined by their class.
When casting spells at a higher lvl simply spend the extra Mana in accordance with the number of spell slots above the original.
The mortal limit on casting a single spell is 9 points of Mana spent.
