Whether you're making bass house or hardstyle, kick length stays the same. Most EDM producers use 1/16th but it's wrong! Here's why 1/8th works.
For years I made kicks at 1/16th length like most tutorials taught. Keep them short, leave room for the bass. That was the common advice. But my kicks sounded like a polite tap instead of a chest-hitting boom.
But here's the truth: professional kicks in dance music last 1/8th note, not 1/16th. When you split the 1/4 note beat in half, first 1/8th for the kick, second 1/8th for the bass, each element gets its own space without fighting.
In this video, I reveal why kick length determines punch and power. I break down the physics: when a kick pitches down to the fundamental frequency, it needs time to develop all crucial frequencies.
After discovering this rule, my kicks finally had the power I'd been searching for. The 1/8th length gives your kick time to fully develop while perfectly setting up your bass.
Most producers make kicks too short thinking they're leaving space for bass, when they should be using the 1/8th rule for perfect kick-bass blend.
