Super Typhoon Ragasa was the eighteenth named storm, fifth typhoon, first super typhoon and Category 5-equivalent typhoon officially of the 2025 Pacific typhoon season. Ragasa was a rather large, violent and destructive typhoon that existed in mid to late September. The storm made the most powerful landfall of the season when it passed over Panuitan Island, one of the Babuyan Islands off the northern coast of Luzon at peak intensity. It caused extensive damages in Southern China and around the Hong Kong area when it made landfall west of Hong Kong as a much weaker but still powerful Category 3 typhoon before dissipating around the China-Vietnam border. The storm also caused damages in The Philippines when it passed just north of the main island of Luzon. Rains from Ragasa triggered a massive landslide in Taiwan. Ragasa proved to be quite deadly as well.
FUN FACTS: Ragasa was the strongest tropical cyclone worldwide for 2025 until Hurricane Melissa a month later beat that record.
The name 'Ragasa' was used for the first time as it replaced 'Hagibis' as it was retired after the 2019 WPAC season.
Also, the name 'Ragasa' was contributed by The Philippines as it means 'sudden quickening movement' in Filipino.
