mallet basics 2: grip and axes

Описание: The basics series shows mallet players the abstract and efficient form of technique that underlies all non-rebounding percussion playing. The ideas taught are similar to a curriculum found at any drum corps/marching arts camp.


The basics apply to any marimba or vibraphone player in concert settings as well. The later lessons developing the legato stroke will be especially useful-- but aren't party line Stevens philosophy.


Key depth is one of the main differences between concert and marching playing, so bear that in mind.


Last thing- apply this stuff to material to "bake" it into your technique. If you're willing to slog through this pared down, abstract kind of playing, all of your music will be cleaner and have fewer discrete problems overall. The early investment prevents later issue. Use the technical thinking to slow down your music learning process for better practice habits. Meaningful repetition comes easily when working through these parameters.
