Here are Private Paul Large’s sisters, Sandra Fleming and Robin Wesley, and Producer Martin Walsh on ABC TV News on 18 August 2019, talking about what his loss in the Battle of Long Tan meant to their family. Australian actor Daniel Webber portrayed Paul Large in our movie, DANGER CLOSE.

Paul Large was 21 years old when he was killed in action on 18 August 1966 in the Long Tan rubber plantation in South Vietnam. 105 Australians and 3 New Zealanders fought for their lives against more than 2000 Main Force Viet Cong and North Vietnamese soldiers. Sadly, 18 Australians and more than 245 Vietnamese were killed in the battle.

Did you know - Sandra's husband Bryan Fleming is a 1RAR Vietnam Veteran himself? Bryan was serving in Vietnam with 1RAR alongside the U.S. 173 Airborne Brigade prior to Paul arriving in Vietnam with 6RAR in June 1966. Bryan and Paul were great mates and they were hoping to catch up in country, but sadly they passed each other like ships in the night when Bryan departed back to Australia and Paul arrived in Vietnam.
