“‘Gammadu’ or ‘Devolmaduwa’ is connected to the main devalaya and when it is done on the temple grounds it becomes ‘Devol Maduwa’. Giving priority to the occasion of the arrival of Pattini Halamba in the evening and giving the opportunity to seven people instead of one Pattini as ‘Pattini Maduwa’. At the time of the landing of the god Devol, the fire pit set up in front of Kadawatha was made in a very large size, and the shed where the people were placed and given priority to it was called the ‘Gini Maduwa’.

Blessings of fertility and health The Devol Madu Shanthikarmaya is a grand spectacle for both locals and visitors to Sri Lanka. This rural ritual, also known as Gam Maduwa, is designed to invoke the blessings of the Goddess Paththini, to bless the village with good health, fertility and a bountiful harvest.

Ancient Depanama Ganegoda Dewalaya at Pannipitiya, Dewala Road

The log shed and bonfire of the historic Sri Ganegoda Dewalaya, which has been maintained annually since ancient times, is also a place full of such miracles. The ritual of lighting the fire in the early morning is considered to be a very important part of the Depanama Dewala fire shed. From generation to generation, burning is done in Kataragama Sri Ganegoda Dewalaya. This is one such occasion that was seen at the campfire this year.

Gini madu same as Gam madu or devol madu ] is a ritual performed by traditional Low country dancers in Sri Lanka. Madu or Maduwa is a place where these dancers praise Goddess Paththini to shower peace and prosperity to all countrymen. Moreover organizers and spectators believe that evil would be crushed and all hearts would be filled with good deeds. Dance schedule is called 'pelapaliya' and it is a list of dances. Some dancers wear traditional Sri Lankan masks made out of low weight wood and others wear elegant & bright dancing costumes. Yak bera devil's drum is a part of low country dancing form and a definite inclusion in a ritual like 'Madu'. Usually 'maduwa' is organized by a leading 'kapu mahattaya' or shaman of a Paththini shrine and sponsored by a prominent person or an organization in the area. 'Maduwa' as a low country ritual and 'Kohomba kankariya' as an Up-country event has lot of similarities.
