Types of universities in India

यूजीसी का गठन पहली बार 1945 में अलीगढ़, बनारस और दिल्ली के तीन केंद्रीय विश्वविद्यालयों के काम की देखरेख के लिए किया गया था। इसकी जिम्मेदारी 1947 में सभी भारतीय विश्वविद्यालयों को कवर करने के लिए बढ़ाई गई थी।
यूनाइटेड किंगडम के विश्वविद्यालय अनुदान समिति (University Grants Committee) के समान लाइनों के साथ यूजीसी को पुनर्गठित करने के लिए एक सिफारिश की गई थी।
In 1952 the government decided that all grants to universities and higher learning institutions should be handled by the UGC.
इसके बाद, शिक्षा मंत्री मौलाना अबुल कलाम आजाद द्वारा 28 दिसंबर 1953 को एक उद्घाटन किया गया था,
नवंबर 1956 में UGC भारतीय संसद के "विश्वविद्यालय अनुदान आयोग अधिनियम, 1956" के पारित होने पर एक सांविधिक निकाय बन गया।
University Grants Commission of India (UGC India) is a statutory body set up by the Government of India in accordance to the UGC Act 1956.
