Описание: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Tuesday downplayed a spat with US President Donald Trump following a public fallout, saying ties between the two countries remained strong.

"I do not intend to continue fuelling this confrontation," Meloni said during an interview in Rome. "Our bilateral work with the United States must return to normal."

Referring to memes on social media about her and Trump, she said it was time to bring 'depth' to the foreign policy relationship between the two countries.

"We really talk about foreign policy as if it were, I don't know, 'Temptation Island'. I say that to refer to the memes I see going around, but foreign policy is a more complex matter than that," she stressed.

Meloni then welcomed Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani's decision to cancel a planned visit to Washington 'to send a signal'.
