Описание: Today we take on something truly legendary – the world famous 72 ounce steak challenge at The Big Texan Steakhouse, Or did we? . We’d heard stories of people finishing a steak the size of a small roast in Amarillo, Texas, and earning the meal for free, so we set out to give this food eating challenge a go! But could two brits try and survive Texas sized portions, or would the Wild West defeat us? Before we sat down to eat, we wanted to understand why this challenge is such a big deal. The tradition began soon after the Big Texan opened on Route 66 in 1960. Owner Bob “RJ” Lee noticed that cowboys from a nearby stockyard would challenge each other to see who could eat the most steaks in an hour. One cowboy managed to consume four and a half pounds of steak – 72 ounces – plus a baked potato, salad, shrimp cocktail and roll. Lee was so impressed that he declared the meal would be free to anyone who could repeat the feat Thus, the 72 ounce steak challenge was born. The contest has since been featured on Man v. Food, Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations and parodied on The Simpsons Competitive eaters like Joey Chestnut and Molly Schuyler have set blistering records (8 minutes 52 seconds and 4 minutes 58 seconds respectively), adding to the lore.
