A Domino Odyssey is a short film that explores the musicality, rhythms, energies, and emotions of domino toppling. Through synchronizing our setups to an emotionally diverse piece of music, we have illustrated how different setups can represent different moods, as well as visualizing the overall journey of the music. It's our biggest, most ambitious chain reaction project ever, so we hope you will enjoy! :) :D :3

As for how this project came to be, this has been an idea that has been brewing in the back of our mind since early 2017, when we did our Musically Timed Screenlink collaboration with Flash Domino. (   • Musically Timed Screenlink 3 (w/ Twig)  ) We loved making this video, but it felt like just an inkling of what was truly possible, since we had to change our style a lot for that video. I knew we would want to collaborate with Flash Domino again, and in 2020 we did, and These Setups Become Progressively More Compact was created (which was also a video concept we had in the back of our mind since as early as 2016!)

However, that was only one part of the puzzle - we wanted to explore the idea of syncing music to domino videos further. What if instead of matching every note/beat to something in the dominoes, we focussed more on the artistic side of music? How the song makes you feel, how it generally progresses? I knew that if we were to ever re-visit this idea, it would be to this piece of music you hear in this video: "Dark Matter Suite" by 1f1n1ty & sheddy. But it was the kind of idea that was brushed aside because it would obviously take forever and be way too ambitious.

Last summer, Double Domino contacted us about working on a project together (as it was a prize for winning my contest with his video Incredible Domino Ideas), and the idea was brought back to life, and started taking form. We planned the whole screenlink and spent the next 10 or so months constructing everything you see here. It has been so rewarding seeing this old idea finally manifest itself, and this video was a blast to work on.

Double Domino is an amazing builder and has been such a joy to work with for all these months. He's not only been such a kind and supportive friend, but he is insanely skilled at what he does, and his dedication is nuts. If we were ever at a low point during the building process, watching his clips would always light us back up and get us motivated again. This video would have never been possible without him.

Lastly, happy two years of Incredible Domino Ideas. I can't believe this video has been out for that long, but at the same time it makes sense, it has manifested itself as a classic in the community :) For the last time - Incredible Domino Ideas is a beautiful work of art, please go watch it!!!
