M-53 is a highway which heads north from the east side of Detroit all the way to Port Austin in the Thumb region of Michigan. Almost the entire highway runs concurrent with Van Dyke Ave. The only exception is the stretch between 18 Mile Rd to 34 Mile Rd where M-53 branches off from Van Dyke and becomes a freeway. I head north on the freeway portion of M-53 going from 18 Mile Rd all the way to 34 Mile Rd.
