The lab is dimly lit. The air is thick with exhaust from groaning machinery. But engineer Vic Tandy still works diligently at a cluttered desk.
Then the hair on his neck stiffens. He spots a translucent grey figure bolt out of sight from the corner of his eye.
He whips around to track its movement, but it's gone.
All he sees is an extractor fan vibrating a thin sheet of metal. But Tandy can't hear the vibrating sheet, which piques his curiosity.
So he measures the frequency and finds it is creating a 19Hz standing wave.
This frequency, known as infrasound, is below the range of human hearing (20hz-20,000hz). But it can still affect people, causing discomfort, blurred vision, dizziness, and feelings of horror.
Tandy's theory was further supported during an investigation in a reportedly haunted 14th-century pub, where a similar 19Hz sound wave was present.
Tandy’s discovery suggests that infrasound at 19Hz might be responsible for the unsettling sensations that lead people to believe in hauntings, earning it the nickname “the sound of fear.”

This post contains that same 19hz frequency. Can you feel it?
