Jaldapara Tourist Lodge is a W.B.T.D.C.l(Govt. Of West Bengal) property, that offers visitors to enjoy comfortable accommodation and warm hospitality.
Jaldapara tourist lodge located at Madarihat is not more than 1-2 Kms away from the National Park gate and only 100 meters away from the forest office where safari bookings are done. Two types of Safari are done at Jaldapara. Jeep Safari & Elephant Safari. We managed to get Jeep Safari from the Hotel reception counter but needed to go to the booking office & stand in queue for Elephant safari as the hotel has a limited quota and it was full. The window booking system seemed to be transparent. For an Elephant safari, you need to go to hollong bungalow inside the jungle. you can take your own vehicle or else can hire a vehicle from the hotel at 500 Rupees. The backside of the cottages & resort is Jungle with proper fencing between both. Lodge has a nice garden for children with statues of animals.

The hotel has rooms in building & Luxury cottages. Cottage rooms are very big enough right on huge lawns. The bathroom too was very spacious. I had come here with little low expectation as a government-run tourist lodge. Must say everything in the room was working perfectly including air condition. The rooms & bathrooms were neat & clean. Cottage rooms were at par with 3-4 star hotels. The toiletries pouch given in the room was very beautiful.

At the reception, we got two extreme experiences. One attendant was quite lazy, negative not in the mood to answer your queries quite symbolic to government offices, and one other time another attendant on reception was very helpful, enthusiastic, knowledgeable who guided us well. other staff too were cooperative by & large.

You get basic food here in the restaurant. Morning veg thali lunch was ok but I survived it with sweet mango pickle served with it which was great. Evening dinner we had tried ala carte, the food was a bit oily but doable. For breakfast, you can order one dish from 2-3 available options for vegetarians. I believe Non-vegitarians must be having plenty of options here.

As far as safari is concerned We did one Jeep safari & one elephant safari, We manage to see a big herd of elephants, Indian bison (Gaur), Peacock, very few deers. Rhino the main attraction of Jaldapara remains elusive for us in both the safaris. Evening safari has a half-hour cultural song & dance show by Bodo Adivasi girls. While returning from morning safari quite excited to witness a family of four elephants coming out of the Jungle trampling electrical fence with a foot, crossing road & going to another side of the jungle, all thanks to the alertness of our car driver who sensed the presence of elephants nearby with his naturally trained senses & did not budge from a place for more than 15 minutes. In both our safari drivers were more alert, sharp & knowledgeable than guides allotted by the authority. In all sightings was quite a law compared to other Jungle I have visited so far, but no regrets this is one is a beautiful place to visit.
