This video shows how I care for monarch caterpillars and butterflies during a cold front here in Florida.
When nighttime temperatures drop too low, I take extra steps to protect them and wait until temps return to the 50s overnight before transitioning them back outside. December has been especially busy for us — we have new chrysalises forming and butterflies emerging almost every day, so cold snaps require close monitoring and thoughtful care.
Florida winters can be unpredictable, and sudden cold fronts can be dangerous for monarchs at every stage. This video shares a real look at what that care looks like behind the scenes and why timing and temperature matter so much.
