"I felt really important, [my son] started to feel really important. He felt he wasn't being judged at all."
Deborah Warner
A family inclusive model, designed to respond to acute crisis, by holding meetings involving the person in distress, their family, other supports and multidisciplinary team members, is called Open Dialogue.
"It's what we call 'slow psychiatry.' Where you take time to understand everybody's perspective in the room. It's an approach of deeper listening." Director Alfred Child Youth Mental Health Services Paul Denborough
This model has the person with mental health issues at the centre and therapeutic relationships are developed so that they feel safe, understood, valued and respected. Family and friends are engaged, involved and supported and viewed as sustainable networks.
