A carpenter in 1180 AD spent three days cutting one joint. No nails. No screws. Just wood against wood.
That joint is still holding today — 844 years later.
The Vikings didn't fasten wood. They married it. Every joint was a 3D puzzle that locked together under its own weight. Gravity was the fastener. Wood movement was the tightening mechanism.
They built 1,000 stave churches this way. 28 survive. The rest weren't destroyed by rot or failure — they were destroyed by us, when cheap nails made skill "unnecessary."
We traded 500-year buildings for 50-year buildings. This video explains what we lost.
