Harishchandragad Fort – Over 1,000 Years Old Shiva Temple | Kokankada: A Natural Wonder.

Описание: Harishchandragad is a historical hill fort located in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra, at an altitude of 1,424 meters. It lies 8 km from Khireshwar, 50 km from Bhandardara, 166 km from Pune, and 218 km from Mumbai. It is one of the most popular trekking destinations in Maharashtra.

The fort dates back to the 6th century during the reign of the Kalchuri dynasty. The citadel was constructed during this period, and the caves on the fort are believed to have been carved in the 11th century AD. Sage Changdev is said to have meditated here in the 14th century. The fort later came under Mughal control before being captured by the Marathas in 1747 AD. Archaeological discoveries suggest Microlithic human habitation in the area. The fort is also mentioned in several Puranas, including the Matsyapurana, Agnipurana, and Skandapurana.

Kedareshwar caves:- Each pillar here represents one of the four yugas: Satya Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dvapara Yuga, and Kali Yuga. Currently, this lingam stands on just one pillar, as the other three have already fallen. It is believed that if the last pillar collapses, the world will come to an end.
