Thumper ditched his flamethrower for something with a little more "thump" to it. This left Firestarter to carry the torch. Puns aside, it's also the start of an unfortunate trend with the flamethrower special getting passed around from car to car.

As for what Thumper has instead, the soundwave blast is a very interesting tool. It has the potential to be even stronger than the flamethrower, both in terms of damage (for some reason) but also in terms of utility. Enemies hit by the soundwave are also pushed away from Thumper, and this displacement has a lot of potential advantages. It's good for beginning combos, stuffing approaches, and just generally putting enemies in danger. Plus, Thumper is also weirdly tanky for his weight class, so yeah. He's another very strong car in this game, and there's a reason speedrunners use him a lot, even in spite of him being tied for longest special regen time.

Played on Pure Lunacy difficulty. Trying to go deathless.
