The Red Drawing Room was the main reception room for guests arriving at Waddesdon. The 19th-century arrangement of the room was an open and comfortable space for up to 40 house party guests.
Baron Ferdinand was fascinated by French history, and objects associated with the Ancien Régime – the courts of Louis XIV, XV and XVI. He combined decorative arts from 18th-century France with the finest English 18th-century portraits, creating what became known as the ‘Rothschild style’. This room is a fine example of his taste.
