Bat rescue daily life: the chaos of Auntie Jack's 21 babies

Описание: This is some very minimally edited footage from a month ago, when I moved Origami, Van Gogh (his story to come) and Augie, to Auntie Jack, in return for 8 of her very stressed babies needing more hands on care.
Auntie Jack took somewhere around 34 babies from some stress events in the Hunter Valley; first from a starvation event when babies were too weak to keep hanging onto their starving mums, and dropped off, then a few weeks later when there was a heat stress event and the already compromised bats dropped out of the trees, dying and dead from dehydration and heat stress.
The result was long hours of hard work in her life over the last few months.
Welcome to the chaos of daily life governed by the needs of many orphan batties.

I have a famous "pink dressing gown", but Auntie Jack has her own personal (and inhabited) version, her purple dressing gown, which is usually festooned with baby batties in various stages of neediness pre or post feeds.

Feeds take over an hour 4-5 times a day, and grooming takes about 2 hours to give them all some individual love and attention and cuddling. Sorting out the feeds, cleaning up the mess, doing the washing, chopping the fruit and getting it all out and hung in the aviary; it's all monumental. Sorting out issues with injuries and dressings takes more time, then there are the records (did I mention the records??), and tracking down which belongs with each record when they keep losing their nail polish identifiers.

Kudos to Auntie Jack, who managed all this mostly alone, with the support of a helper for one feed, and her partner who isn't a batty person at all.
I would have been totally unable to cope with this dose of intensive battiness, and being unable to leave the house for a few months, being fed and watered by a partner (which I don't have), and sleeping in between feeds in order to be able to accommodate enough sleep-time and the babies' needs.
Clearly Auntie Jack has an insanity gene and staying power.

Tolga Bat Hospital takes donations for our batties. Tolga is an awesome place in Far North Queensland, which has charity status. By sending donations to them, they get a percentage (and deserve every cent) and they can allocate money to me for batty expenses without it becoming part of my income stream (which makes tax time difficult).
