India-EU FTA Could Raise Exports to $270B Over Next 5-6 Years: Foreign Affairs Expert

He highlighted the long-awaited India-EU free trade agreement, which has been under negotiation for over 20 years, and is expected to cover goods, services, and mobility of professionals. Currently, India’s trade with Europe stands at around $130 billion, but post-agreement exports are projected to rise to $250–270 billion over the next five to six years, marking a major quantum jump. Sachdev also noted that a defense partnership agreement is expected, which could strengthen security ties as Europe ramps up defense spending amid changing global dynamics.
