Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th Congressional District, which encompasses most of Seattle, since 2017.
Having come to the United States by herself at the age of 16, she is the first and only South Asian American woman ever elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. She serves on the U.S. House Budget, Foreign Affairs, Judiciary, and Steering and Policy Committees. She is Chair Emerita of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and a leading opponent of Donald Trump and oligarchic attacks on democracy.
During Galway International Arts Festival 2025, she was interviewed by Fintan O’Toole, Ireland’s best-known journalist and author of numerous books including We Don’t Know Ourselves: A Personal History of Ireland since 1958.
First Thought Talks are created in collaboration with & shot on location at The University Of Galway
