Idli podi or milagai podi (Tamil: இட்லிப் பொடி; Malayalam: ഇഡ്ളി പൊടി;Telugu: కారం పొడి) is a coarse spice powder, originating from the Indian subcontinent, with a mixture of ground dry spices that typically contains dried chilis, black gram, chickpeas, salt and sesame seeds. The spice mix is commonly referred to in informal speech as "gunpowder" or chutney powder. It is generally mixed with gingelly (sesame) oil or melted ghee when it is served alongside idli or dosa.
Ingredients :
1 Cup Urad Daal
1 Cup Groundnuts
1 Tblsp Chana Daal
1 Tsp Sesame seeds
10 - 12 Dry Red Chilli
8 - 10 Garlic Cloves
A few Curry Leaves
1 Big Tblsp Salt
How to Prepare :
Dry roast all the Ingredients until Crisp... Don't Overdo.
Grind them to a little bit coarse powder..
then..
Ready to serve
You can store it for months
Keep Inside Air tight Container
How to serve :
To the serving Plate
Take necessary amount of Powder
Add Ghee or Oil according to your requirements
Mix Properly.. ( Here you can adjust Spice and Salt accordingly)
Serve With Idli, Dosa,
Chapati, Poori, Adai etc
Idli Podi (milagai podi) is a flavorful spicy chutney powder, which is mixed with ghee or sesame oil (gingelly oil) and served as an accompaniment with idli or dosa in most of the south Indian households. It is basically used as a substitute for traditional coconut chutney to serve with idli while travelling or in kids’ lunch box.
