Описание: The Stanley area has plenty of amazing terrain for ski touring. With the low snowpack and warm temps, we chose to ski some easier slopes and encountered every type of snow except fresh! On day 1, we ascended Elk mountain via a gentle ridge on the north side. Snow was mostly unconsolidated mush. On day 2, we ascended a gentle ridge south of Elk mountain and had much better skiing on firm crust and proto corn. Both tours were about 6 miles roundtrip with 1700 ft of climbing. Fires had cleared out underbrush which made the climbing and skiing much easier. Both tours are easily accessed from Hwy 21.
