Central Moreton Bay – Spoil Grounds

There are several spoil grounds in Moreton bay. I was told that In years gone by all sorts of rubbish was dropped in these areas. These days the only thing I have heard about being dropped there is the tailings from dredging. A couple of years ago they dredged Toondah Harbour and I heard that they dropped the tailings at night in a spoil ground near Mud Island.

I do not mind the idea of dumping some things in the bay to build up structure and fish habitat. Certainly, nothing toxic but there is lots of scrap that goes into land fill that could be dumped in the bay without doing any harm to the environment. Anything that helps to establish structure and habitat on the ocean floor is a good idea in my opinion.
