Time to explore renaissance support garments and show you the one I made. I got the word “imbusto” from the phrase “sottana senza imbusto” meaning petticoat without a bodice. It was a phrase for an underskirt. As you will see, there are several names for many things and it isn’t always clear precisely what each descriptor means. Researching historical dress is an interesting process, as you start out seeing one portrait and as you learn and look at more things you realize that people were just as complex and varied in their styles as they are today. Bonus messy hair because it was a LONG day with two tiny humans. :)
