Jeff Carl "Lonely Bird" (Jeff Carl ORIGINAL)

Описание: Hey everybody, so not only is this my first video posted with me playing guitar (for the record, I by no means consider myself great at it), but it is also my first original song posted on youtube! I've had a lot of requests for originals, and this is one that's been finished for awhile, but I just hadn't gotten around to recording it.

As far as the setting, I'm in my building's "basement," which is this awesome, HUGE, empty, glass room with incredible acoustics.

As for the song itself, "Lonely Bird" is a song that contemplates feeling torn at a crossroads. I hope anyone who listens to it can relate in some way, shape, or form. For me, at the time of its birth I was feeling a lot of turmoil about being in school. My heart wasn't in school at all, even in the courses that seemingly were what I was passionate about, yet I felt pressure to continue on. The problem was, I felt like I was sacrificing my true self by "sucking it up." I get college. I know it's a good thing for a lot of people, and maybe even for me too someday, but at the time, I wanted nothing more than to be free. While on my apartment's porch one day, I witnessed a lone bird just chilling on an electrical wire, and it got me thinking. We all have choices, regardless of the pressures involved. We can make a nest by staying in place, continuing on, hoping for the best but risking never experiencing the unknown. We can stay "on the line," spending all of our time just thinking about it, enjoying the safety of internal arguments without external repercussions. Or we can risk it all by flying away, going with our gut, and seeing just where our futures could go if we live true to ourselves.

Where has this lead me? This semester is the first semester of my "flying away." I have decided to... "take time off" school. At least that's what I'm calling it. Sure enough, I feel as though a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Has my decision raised some eyebrows? Yes. And I am happy as can be.

So here's to living true.
