These Pocket Critters were produced by the Japanese toy company Takara. They are designed to attach to a key ring.
When you open one of the critters, it animates, driven by a spring that is compressed when you close the critter, ready for the next time you open it.
Each critter has a little animated world inside.
Takara was founded in 1955, and in 2006 it merged with Tomy, another Japanese toy company.
