EU to invest in Greenland, strengthen Arctic security co-op as Trump suspends tariffs threats

Описание: EU leaders convened an emergency summit to address Trump’s tariff and military threats over Greenland, affirming solidarity with Denmark and Greenland and vowing to counter coercion with available tools.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen outlined four actions: backing Greenland/Denmark, supporting tariff-threatened EU states, engaging the U.S. firmly, and preparing trade countermeasures.

On the summit’s eve, Trump announced a NATO framework deal on Greenland, suspending threats and claiming permanent U.S. Arctic access.

Denmark’s PM Mette Frederiksen stressed sovereignty as a red line, while Greenland’s PM Jens-Frederik Nielsen expressed surprise at the NATO deal, noting his exclusion from talks and reiterating sovereignty, territorial integrity and international law as non-negotiable red lines.
